Musical Leadership: From Analysis to Performance

What differentiates a good conductor from an ineffective one? How does the analysis of their music enhance their decisions made when conducting? Is there more than one right way to effectively lead a choir? Conducting is a physical manifestation of musical character and leadership as a musician. It requires physical coordination and movement, but also relies on flexibility and adaptation to the music and the people you are working with. My research involves discovery of cues in the scores and gestures in the hands, and how conductors make decisions based on what they find in the music and bring it to life with their ensembles.
