Abstract
This proposal examines the need for more educational help within the Prince Edward County Elementary School. The purpose of this proposal is to provide the English and Modern Languages Department the information necessary to assess the benefits to the Prince Edward County Elementary School with implementing a new reading program. As well, our program will open an opportunity to give current Longwood students more opportunity to get service hour credit along with real world tutoring experience for majors in particular studies such as English and Education. The benefits for having a reading tutoring program are to help raise the literacy and comprehension rates of the students in Prince Edward Elementary School. This proposed program gives the chance of elementary students getting tutored by Longwood college students in their school setting. The proposed program will have a designated faculty advisor to oversee all the details, while the full tutoring program will be student led.
