Longwood: Life during COVID-19

Beginning in April 2020, Greenwood Library sought to collect the stories of community experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The submissions posted here were submitted to that community archive and share Longwood’s stories of Covid-19. We asked students, faculty, and staff to share with us their thoughts and feelings in any format they wanted, and we received submissions of various forms, including journals, poems, artwork, video, poems etc. While we collected submissions throughout 2020 and into early 2021, the bulk of submissions represent the early days and months of quarantine from April - May 2020.

I have uploaded a picture of a kind gift that was left for my family and I in our mailbox. Times like this, bring a community together. Small acts of kindness can really brighten up your day during these dark times. This flower with a note reading, "HAPPY May Day!! May this help to bring you joy" was left for my family on May 1st, 2020, in M.D. This act of kindness not only brought us joy, but encouraged us to keep spreading joy to others.

    Covid Snapchat

    Maria Reynoso

I captured this Snapchat on April 14 at around 7:30am. There are a lot of things going on in my personal life (like many others) that has really put another level on stress on me. I'm not sure what it was about that morning but I brown down ... at 7:30am. After about an hour or so I recorded this to remind myself that even when I feel like breaking down, things will be okay. The Snapchat filter was added for a little humor, sometimes it's the little things that get us through the day.

  • Covid Social Media by Kaitlyn Long

    Covid Social Media

    Kaitlyn Long

March 24th, 2020/ Social media responses to schools being shut down as a first-year teacher (that started in January). On March 23d Governor Northam Shut Down Schools in Virginia for the remainder of the school year. I did not get the opportunity to say goodbye to my students. This is 4/4 pictures that went with my reflection and response on Facebook that I wrote the next day. It just occurred to me all of these pictures are of the first, and only, few months in my classroom since January. I have a Bob Ross cardboard cutout with the 6 traits of literacy written on his paint pallet. The students are wearing a George Washington mask as a silly/fun way to conceal their identity so I could share the pictures on my classroom Instagram @61bobross
