Description
Our research study consisted of gathering students from Longwood University via SONA systems and randomly separating them into one of the four levels of the independent variable. We used deceit to hide the actual purposes of our study. For this study, GIFs served as an emotional stimulus and consisted of either a scary theme or a comedic theme. The other important variable is the presence of either a male or female in the GIFs. The levels of the independent variable consist of male presence in scary GIF, male presence in comedic GIF, female presence in scary GIF, and female presence in comedic GIF. The participants viewed an image for 30 seconds, then the GIF for another 30 seconds, and completed a 20-question quiz to see how much participants can recall from the 1st image. After completion of the questionnaire, participants completed a survey to get feedback about the research, demographics, and perform the manipulation check after we informed our participants of the deceit used and the truth about our experiment.
