NURS 230: Negative Effects of Restraints

This project implements the core nursing principle of evidence based practice. Through research we will find the negative effects restraints have, and why other measures should be taken before restraint use is implemented. While sometimes the use of restraints may be necessary to protect the patient, the nurse, or both. We predict that overall the use of restraints results in negative patient outcomes. Through our research we provide other common practices, based on evidence, that are implemented in place of restraints as a means of ensuring positive patient outcomes. In certain situations a nurse, or other healthcare professional, might find themselves in a situation in which restraints are necessary. We conclude our presentation with ways that a nurse can use restraints safely, as a last resort.
