Description

The student (Samuel DiLandro) will create a text which includes specific phoneme sounds that differ on a native French speaker’s home country/region. Then, the student will visit with a number of faculty members and students on campus, fluent in French, asking them to read the text. This will be recorded and analyzed to determine the phonetic sounds of each pronunciation. This will be done by way of a phonetic transcription of each person’s respective recordings. The data gathered will be analyzed to create a poem in French highlighting each regionally/internationally differing phonetic sound noted. This poem will be taken back to the original faculty members and students to pinpoint where their accent is from, and which phonemes differ.
