BIOL 488: Proposed Treatments and Therapies for Alpha-Gal Allergy Syndrome (AGAS)

Alpha-Gal Allergy Syndrome (AGAS) is recently discovered allergy to mammalian meat and in many cases consumable or injectable mammalian-derived "byproducts". Today, there are not many treatments or therapies for this allergy; The only one in practice with the highest success is the total avoidance diet. More effective therapies and treatments are needed due to the difficulty of avoiding mammal products and the current high rates of accidental exposure. This project focuses on reviewing the recent literature on AGAS treatments and therapies, along with research on related allergies, to propose a potentially successful method to treat or cure this allergy, as well as raise awareness of its increasing prevalence. I propose a survey to gather information on patients with AGAS and their practiced treatments and therapies to be able to compare this data to the literature gathered
