Men’s Soccer was added to Longwood athletics in 1976, when Longwood went co-educational, and was originally granted Intercollegiate Interest Group status by the Intercollegiate Athletic Council, their first head coach was Dick Williamson. In 1979, Richard Posipanko was named the second head coach for men’s soccer, he was also an instructor for the Campus School. He graduated from Slippery Rock State College with a BS degree, and earned an MA at Trenton State College, where he also served as an assistant soccer coach. Posipanko was named VISA Coach of the year in 1986 and 1982, he was also named Mid Atlantic Division II Coach of the year in 1982. Under his leadership the men’s soccer team won Virginia Intercollegiate Soccer Association Championships in 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1987.
