Obesity, a common and costly health issue that increases risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer, affects more than one-third of adults and 17 percent of youth in the United States. In 2013, 29% of Prince Edward residents were classified as physically inactive as compared to 24% of Virginians and 21% of Americans (County healthrankings.org, 2018). The priority population are overweight and obese individuals in Prince Edward County. Providing these individuals with various outlets to participate in physical activity nutrition classes would benefit them so they will recognize and act on effective methods to reduce obesity.
