Description

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is designed to help participants “sit with” negative thoughts rather than focus on them. In this study, college researchers aimed to find whether ACT had an effect on distress after participants viewed a series of distressing images from the International Affective Picture System (IAPS). Overall, participants who received the ACT intervention as compared to a coloring intervention were able to watch the presentation longer.
