Session

"Inquiry as a Lens for Literacy Coaching", Sara Miller and Angela Stewart. Audience: All

  • Traditional models of coaching focus on an expert stance; however, the use of a neutral coaching stance can more effectively help educators identify areas for personal growth. Participants will explore how to use inquiry as a lens for instructional coaching and building reflective practices within an educational setting.

"The Real Deal with Nonfiction", Michelle Martin, Tracey Ingle, Meredith Rapp. Audience: grade 3-8

  • Are you interested in finding new strategies to help your students make connections with the real world through nonfiction texts? If so, this is the session for you! Participants will learn strategies that will spark inquiry amongst students while also strengthening comprehension and building vocabulary. Free and innovative technology resources that promote collaboration and research will also be explored.

"The Exceptional School: Adapting Lessons to Meet Your Students’ Needs", Katie Kier and Rachel Brown. Audience: All

  • Looking for ideas to use with your exceptional education students? This session will provide teaching techniques and resources for educators who teach students on various levels of the spectrum.

"Henry Cole’s Unspoken: Library Lessons", Lynne Farrell Stover. Audience: Elementary

  • This interactive session features the excellent picture book Unspoken: A Story from the Underground Railroad. Lessons include "Resource Relay Race," "The Farm Girl Makes a Choice" and "Wordless Book Roundtable." Attendees will receive classroom-ready lessons and a topical bibliography. Door prizes are included.

"Get Personal - TEACH!", Ronda Scarrow (Repeated Session 4). Audience:All

  • Be creative, be kind, be willing to share everything, keep your passion, know your stuff, make it real, promote critical thinking, engage, encourage discovery, take risk, communicate, keep it real, be flexible, and don’t be afraid of failure –TEACH!

Advanced Web Searching for Educators, Paul Barron. Audience: Middle/High

  • Become a more effective Web searcher by learning to use the advanced search features in Google. Your students will be amazed with your expertise and will want you to teach them to search like you. After learning how to search Google you can influence them to use the library databases.
